Hi All

I am in the fortunate position to now be able to afford the £349.00 for wet weather gear. I am going to order it from RHE next week but when i asked Gina at RHE if the side panels were folding she said no. Can you get the side panels in behind the seats when they are not in use? Do folding side panels exist or did i dream that? Is there any thing i should look out for when fitting etc

Your help is always appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Julian,

I dont know about the follding side panels but a i can give you a very useful tip when fitting the hood.

Follow the vid as this is pretty good, and get to the stage where you have the hood fitted to the windscreen and draped over frame ready to mark out the back end.

Now if you lift the bonnet up a touch, bout an inch or two, the rear of the hood will sink a bit lower down the rear panel. you can then use loads of tape to keep it tight while you mark out the fixing holes in the rear chassis tube. After these are drilled and fitted, when you fit the hood again it will be quite firm, remember to leave the bonnet open when initially fitting, as when you close the bonnet the hood will be pulled nice and tight. This looks much better than some of the caterhams ive seen driving around in thier sagging hoods.

Hope this helps.

Just another thought!

The Hood fastners can be a bit of a bugger to fit unless you have a proper upholsterers tool but i did come up with an alternate method.

On Car- these ones need to be riveted on, try to find a rivet gun with a slim attatchment so as to make sure you can press it tightly into the fastner (mr angle grinder helped mine get slim)- becareful round windscreen, dont drill or crack the glass!

On Hood- These ones on the fabric, need to be pressed through the holes in the hood. These come in two parts and they sandwhich together either side. Once the other is placed over the protruding bit then ( on a firm flat surface) place a philips screwdriver head in the hollow end and give it a couple of whacks with a hammer. This should split it four ways like a petal formation, you can then fold these back a bit (screwdriver or small chisel) after they are pressed back then i used a small socket which i placed inside and beat it some more which flattened them completely.

This worked wonders for me and doesnt take to long once you get a system going.

Have Fun B)

I contacted "Polyfacto" Tel No; 01323 841399 I then posted the side screens to them, they took them apart and cut the metal framework inside of them so they now fold and I can get them into the boot of my car (Mark 3)

If you have O level origami, you can fiddle the side screens under the roll bar on a 2B

where they are held in place by the diagonal tubes, and rest against the seat headrests.

They can't blow out sideways or backwards, but you can also hold them in

place with bungees for extra security.

Bob.

If you don't have a slim line pop riveter just pop a small nut (make sure its small enough to fit in the popper )over the long bit of the rivet before placing it into the gun. The poppers will then be securely attached and won't rattle.

Bruce

P.S.

I have high back race bucket seats not the ones pictured on the day I finished the car so I don't think you will have problems fitting the side panels in the back

Although mines a 3a on the side screens i have fixed a small leather strap which fixes to the body on a press stud as on the hood and the screen on the inside as a handle come lock, when i stripped the car down i used the small alan key bolts and nuts to re fix the pop studs mine fit ok in the back but its a 3a

On the subject of tops for the hood, does anyone know/had experience of a good manufacturer and fitter? Ours was nearly done somewhere in darkest cradely heath (or close by) but as a part of that whole disaster it never got done.

Still getting wet though, and a roof might help a bit!

Cheers
