Hi, can anyone sugest a simple way of changing wiring on a 1989 sierra loom with sierre switch so fog light will only come on with dip/main beam, just checking my lights and mine opperate with side, dip & main. I still need to IVA. I realise there are lots of posts on this but most seem to be using the VG looom.

On your sierra stalks there is a link wire from right stalks to left (head/dip/indicator) this is the one to feed your rear fog switch/relay.

To make sure just push a sharp pointed metal spike into the insulation & check it is only "live" (could be earth depends on switch year) when the right stalks are switched for headlights "ON" A smaal lamp connected to either earth or live will tell which.

To florin metal works, Thanks but do you surgests i start again with new feed & relay and just use existing wiring to lamp from sierra switch. Do i need a relay could i not simply change the feed to switch to a new one from headlamp feed ?

Hi,

I used the old sierra loom and decided rather than add a relay I took a feed via diodes directly from the dip and headlight power. This fed the fog light switch directly. I followed the instructions on here somewhere, quick and easy.

My suggesion was an either/or for feed to switch/relay; you chose --- the rear fog is only 21watt -- 1.75amp at the nominal 12 volt if just one lamp used & you do have relays for both head & dip beams??? so load on this link wire will be small.

Marks electronic solution will work just as well -- I don't know the value of the diodes required though.

Hi to Mark what i dont understand in photo's is that you have two wires but only one terminal each end. could understand if you were taking feed from two differant feeds, so it would two into one. ihave located 2 live wires feeding full/dim light switch & 2 live feeding fog switch, could i not disconect these and patch a feed in from full/dip light feed.

confused

Well spotted i did fit two separate ends on the second attempt - feed from main and feed from dip lights to switch. I was distracted with my son in the garage. He loves playing with electrics, drills, hammers and anything that could cause damage.

A great help when required, other times ASBO, he can't wait until it is ready.

Well tried all correct means of completing fog light wiring with relays ect, dont no how many hours I wasted. Finally did as Mark surgested took feed from right hand dip & main light via diods to Ford light switch works a treat, thanks to Mark. Have now had to order replacment headlight units, one of my Seald beam units blew on dip, will it never end ?
