Scottish Highlands 2015H

As the dark nights are closing in on us attention will be turning towards tuning but lets not forget that we need to let all those horses run free occasionally and where better than in the Scottish highlands with a few pals over a long weekend :drinks:

I think last year was a success so I have started the thread a fair bit earlier for this event, route is in planning but as last year it will likely be a five day trip with a pre breakfast run or two planned for those that can't sleep past 5am....perhaps that was the refrigerator units on the delivery lorries though! Booking into the Applecross Inn may facilitate a wee trip up and down the pass a few times so long as the hairpins don't wear anyone down :bad:

As before all comments welcome, I'll do what I want regardless :aggressive:

Coast road runs nicely up to Ullapool Richard, quite easy to extract another 100 miles up there without totally loosing civilisation.... I think this year the 1st day should take us further north and give more time on the absolutely fantastic highland roads.... How was the monster drive from Dunfermline home last time Richard? How many miles that day?

April worked well last year David, roads etc etc quiet and not too much wildlife activity on the roads with newborns.... Weather was amazing too and is normally fair for April up there

Hows everyone fixed for departure Saturday 18th April and return home Wednesday 22nd April? Gives those wishing to attend Stoneleigh a rest period and catches the end of Scottish school holidays so the best driving roads on the Sunday/Monday/Tuesday will be free of dawdling of tourists.....

Day one takes us to Helensburgh (route undecided as yet but will skip into the dales and peaks on the way north)Looking like Travelodge is cheapest in Helensburgh but work commitments mean I have less free time for research this year ;o(

Day two (a day of Lochs); 260 mileshttps://goo.gl/maps/jcrO3This year we will cover the loop of Loch leven we missed on the last trip, lunch again at The Onich hotel (served us well last year), pop on the ferry over to Skye for the night (Food was excellent at Dornie but I thought the rooms were out dated for the price) so I am contacting the hotels on Skye for tariff, availability and food provision-if time permits an evening blast over Skye could happen (likewise a pre-breakfast blast is possible).

Day three (a day of mountain passes) 282 mileshttps://goo.gl/maps/XS9maMore to come ASAP

Day four;

Day five;

Long way home (a faster route is available) https://goo.gl/maps/CzYQU

Day four route slight change of route which takes in far nicer roads one that we do regularly. After Braemar head for Kirkmicheal then Pitlochry over the A9 to Aberfeldy down through the Sma Glen to crieff then head for Dunfermline.
