Fuel Issue?

Hi all

Hope youre all enjoying the nice weather.

So after a successful run out I tried for a second bash, only to find that after a mile the car wanted to stall every time I dipped the throttle. It would however run on full choke...so we limped home at 10mph.

On inspection I think the fuel tank may have been running on fumes, however now on a full tank and the same thing. Every time I dip the throttle it sounds like the engine is sucking in air but goes to stall. Its always done this on first start but stops after a minute so wasnt an issue. I assume fuel starvation? So I changed the filter, but the same. Fuel rate from the r1 pump seems to be about 1l in just under 30 seconds. Next step is to get the r1 carbs off and give the jets a clean in case they are blocked. Any other advice/ideas before I undertake this??

Finally got around to fitting the new pump but it’s not cured it.

Car idles ok and will run fast when chocked

Slightest press on the accelerator and it tries to stall, sounding like it is pulling in to much air vs fuel. Any other ideas before I strip the carbs down?

Thanks

Simon

I think you've probably in the right area of investigation. I'd guess a blockage in the jets or some air getting in diluting the mixture. If it runs with the choke then it's increasing the fuel to air mixture and temporarily bypassing your problem.

I'm not that experienced with bike carbs but i think they have a breather pipe. Others can clarify but i think on some carbs they need to be open and others closed off. can you see one on your setup? Just thinking if it was blocked off for the first run and then became unblocked causing your problem.

  1. Have you pulled the fuel pipe of the t-piece and ran the pump to see how much fuel is being pumped?

  2. Check the air vacuum is working by looking into each carb to see if the flaps rise and fall when lifted.

  3. Dirty carbs, blocked jets.

  4. Balance out of sync, although should still run better than what you've experienced. Checkout my video after i balanced the carbs the other day.

  5. Check out this video
