Gerry Marshall

I watched Gerry race his Firenza at Lydden a year or 2 back.

He overcooked it at the bottom of the hill at a vast rate of knots,

slid backwards into the bank in front of me & promptly disappeared from sight.

When the marshalls opened the door, he was flat on his back in the rear of the car.

His "robust" build had broken all the seat mounting points, & the seatbelt was designed to stop

him going forwards, not backwards.

He was roaring with laughter as they pulled him out feet first.

Remember marshalling "Barn" at Cadwell for the 1974, Tour of Britain when Race and Rally drivers competed on both circuits and rally stages along side each other.

Roger Clark and Gerry were both in factory MK1 RS2000's.

Clark sideways as always with Marshall tapping Clarks door with his NSF corner bumper on every lap.

Roger went on to win outright after the week long event.

Happy days.

2 mins 07 secs in, you get the idea only closer they were actually touching.

I remember Jerry in the "Big Bertha" Firenza, I was servicing at Donnington and was able to watch Jerry and a full grid of Supercar monsters from the pit lane. the sight and sound of Jerry and Doug Niven in the VW side by side down the pit straight will always live with me. Happy days
