I have just bought a Robin Hood. It has an E plate but was first registered 2005. It has a Tubular chassis and double Wishbones(?) on the front. Being a complete novice I could do with some info and advice on the following.

1) Tyres sizes are 195/50 x 15. What is the lowest safe pressure I can run them at?

2)Reason for asking is that the suspension is rock hard. Lower pressures may give a softer ride unless the spring tension is adjustable as on motorbikes. If it is then where is the adjuster?

3) I am 5ft 10in but cannot reach the pedals unless I sit forward in the seat (previous owner was 6ft 3in). Is the pedal position adjustable or do I need to unbolt and remove seat then drill new fixing holes further forward?

4)When/if I need spares is there a company that specialises in Robin Hoods?

5) When I have sorted the pedals/seat out and can drive the car is there anybody in the Southampton/Winchester area that would spend an hour talking me through the car? An hour with someone that knows the cars could save me days trying to feel my way around. I would bring the car to them.

Cheers. Mick.

1) Pressures probably 18-20psi all round

2) Damping may be adjustable normally a adjuster on the shock

3) Move the seat is simplest, could always fit sliding rails

4) Most spares you will need will be Ford sierra based

5) Believe you are near Bob Fry (florin metal works on the forum)

If it has adjustable coilover shocks, they will have an adjuster marked + or -

Scroll through the images for a clearer picture.

Springs, even on coilovers are not adjustable for rate. The usual two big nuts are only used to adjust the ride height.

You may find that it has a standard Sierra coil and shocker at the rear. It will have some sort of coilover at the front, but the originals supplied

by RH were called Zeemerides and were "not the best"!

Follow theduck's advice.....it is spot on.

Robin Hood evolved into Great British Sportscars who still have a few RH spares like a nosecone and try to be helpful. Your 2B will be different to every other 2B in many ways. The chassis is standard. The running gear will be probably ford sierra. The build will be how its builder did it. He may have done all his own electrics, used a ford loom or bought a part readymade loom. He probably bought the switches, fusebox and some of the lights from any number of sources.

Partly what I'm saying is you need to be a bit of a free thinker to run/build a kitcar. And you need to look at yours and know it's probably quite a bit different from mine.

Like I don't know what seats you have in yours, wether they are on adjustable runners or just bolted through strengthened areas of the floor. I doubt 1% have adjustable pedals so it will be moving the seats. If they are on runners, no prob. If they are bolted through the floor then you can either fit runners or drill and reinforce new holes to move them.

There are at least half a dozen likely makes of shocks and springs you might have and several variations of shock length and spring rate and length.

Posting good pics with questions is helpful but you're right in thinking getting an experienced RH owner to have a look is better.

Have a good look at your problems and you will probably work out your options remembering yours is not a standard car.(Nobodies is!) Then ask on here to increase your information and options.

And enjoy the experience of one of the most fun cars there is.

Thanks for all the replies. Car arrives tomorrow so will jack her up and have a good look to see what is bolted and where. Can then get a bit more specific with questions and add photos (How do I do that?). Will take up your offer of a visit Bob. If you give me directions and phone No. I will contact you when I sort out the Seat/Pedals problem and can safely drive it. I also am retired so am flexible with my time.

Cheers. Mick.

One thing you are likely to find is that the clutch pedal is quite high (assuming they used the sierra pedal box). This is 'normal' and once you get used to it is not a problem as you can normally put your foot underneith if you need a stretch.

To add photos you have to use a third party site. You can use something like photobox etc where you will need and account. I tend to just use tinypic.com as you don't need an account and it's dead easy to use. It just won't remember your photos like photobox etc.

As above most RH's are pretty unique in one way or another and you can just tailor it to you, that's the fun bit :)
