i was told it was a super spec 05 the first owner was wiring it for a V tec engine and gave up he then sold it to a farmer who fitted the ford 1100 km2 escort engine , so i have a unknown loom on the car a 1100 escort loom and i think a Robin hood loom that has not been used yet all the parts are new and have never been use its just it been in a dust barn fir a long time .

i have no idea how any thing fits on the frame is it welded screwed or glued ? im sure im missing brackets for the front wings as i can not see how they can fit ? the scuttles i have two one in bits and one in two parts but that does not look like you could fit a glass wind screen to it as it is so thin so im sure i will find out what i need later.

the next thing is what engine do i fit ?? what is the best option ? i have seen a jag v6 in one but i suppose that was a auto box .

thanks for any advice in advance

Seems an odd decision to try and change the engine when the chassis was designed to take either a Rover T16 or a Ford DOHC and as georie40 said the car was sold as a rolling chassis with everything pre-installed. Still, nothing to stop people changing engines, there a few people on here that have done it.

The 2 Superspec owners closest to you are geordie40 (Dartmoor) and Red Robin (Cornwall). If I were you I would ask to visit them and take plenty of pictures. The build videos for the 2B are on You Tube, but not the Superspec. I'll see if I can figure out how to upload them.

Your more than welcome to look at mine. I didn't build it but have the build dvds if you want to have a look at them, or I can take a jolly out to see you.

If I come and look at yours them it will give me some idea of what it looks like under the skin which I can't see on mine without major surgery

Where abouts in Devon are you?

the Main reason for a engine change is the one in the car is small cc and i think it would be better with something bigger in it

Absolutely. The car originally came with a brand new 2000cc engine with an optional turbo. Can't really figure out why that was swapped for a used 1100cc engine.

Hi,

a few things i can see in the picture you might find useful. I'm not sure how much you know already so apologies if you already know this.

The front shocks look to be gaz golds (i run the same on my 2b) so hopefully they are still good. You can tell it's a superspec or dohc by the roll bar having angled sides (the 2bs are vertical) it also has a different tube layout in the engine bay

Do you have gold coloured panels? the front wishbones look gold coloured and they did a version with gold coloured stainless panels.

The front wing stays are missing the curved sections which go around the wheel. It is literally a piece of tube with a 90 degree which you connect to the straight part that is already fitted. I welded mine together but RH suggested inner tubes that are then screwed/bolted in place. Up to you but if you weld you can flat the joint so it looks like one piece.

Side panels i glued and screwed mine on. I actually tapped 6mm holes and used button head bolts (screwfix do stainless ones pretty cheap). You won't need loads as it's not structural and sikaflex or similar will hold it pretty well.

Engine is up to you but i'd suggest using a tried and tested option. If you have a type 9 (reverse up to left) or mt75 (reverse down to right) you might be best sticking to ford especially if the prop is all fitted etc. Or if you want to go off piste you could consider the mx5 as you could install the engine and gearbox as one and transplant the wiring loom etc.

To be honest looking at the picture i would strongly advise you strip it down completely and inspect everything as you put it together replacing anything that's perished etc as you go (boots on track rods etc can be changed as the balljoint won't have been used but the rh supplied ones perished just by themselves).

If you are driving this at 70mph down a motorway it's slightly more reasurring that you know you have inspected everything rather than assuming the last builder did it right.
