#388916 Jim Clark- Best Motor Racing Driver Ever!?

Posted by Steve49er on 28 September 2018 - 02:44 PM

"When I were a lad"......I regularly cycled to Brands to watch anything going on.

The most thrilling races I watched were between Mike Hailwood and Giacamo Agostini.

They were riding almost un rideable bikes, too much power for the frames, which

twisted every which way. Those guys had steel balls.......

I'm probably biased because I could then stand right at the side of the track & be deafened.

I'd love to see Rossi race in person, he looks scary just on the TV.

Bob when I were a LAD I was lucky enough to meet Mike Hailwood when he had just got off the Honda 250 6 that he rode on the IOM TT in 1967. I was with a couple of guys who worked next door to my place of work. They worked for Stanley Schofield SOUND STORIES and as I was on holiday on the IOM during Diamond Jubilee TT week they asked me to come with them with the Sound Recorder for them to make the LP's of the TT. I tried to shake hands with Mike and all he could offer me was his leather elbow, he showed me the palms of his hands that were covered in blisters as he explained when you open the throttle there is so much power all it can do is keep shaking its head ! ............ As Bob rightly says they had the steel balls and the hands to match ! He was also an absolute pleasure to watch  :db:

Giacomo Agostini was also very very amiable too  :acute:

Hi not sure I have a 2B Superspec which I think is about 3 or 3.5 inches wider, I was happier to have the little extra room.

I am sure there are far superior beings on here who will give you a much better explanation.

Mine was Built by GBS for the original owner it has Stainless Chassis and Panels and has a 2.0 Sierra Sapphire DOHC engine, I purchased it from fleabay ! The original owner decided he did not like the seats or the wheels and swopped the seats for Leather Cobra Seats and Black wheels which you will be able to see in the Garage.

NB Just been out to the garage and mine is 44 inches approximately across the driver and passenger area :-)

YOU are correct someone was looking after you my friend, the Nurses once told me it was not your time to go yet so guess we both have a similar Friend who we must thank every minute of our lives.

Hope fully we may meet one day and be able to discuss your "Close Encounter".

In the meantime please please get well and as someone else mentioned the Physio's are your new "Best Friends" their normal motto  is "NO PAIN NO GAIN" but pain is worthwhile to ensure you can do as much as you can once you are recovered.

They taught me to Walk Again, something that is so simple can be very difficult.

Hoping your Christmas is better than expected and that you can move forward albeit slowly to begin with.

GET WELL SOON you will have time over the period of recuperation to work on your project to meet whoever it is who is protecting us !!

Kindest personal regards Merry Christmas and a HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR in 2017

Looks NICE do not worry about how fast or how much power just enjoy owning a car that you will continually get waved at or complimented on whenever you are out in it.

JUST ENJOY IT when your rear end is 3" off the ground it all seems very FAST.

Join the Club if you can to support the Club which is full of so much information and help which is wonderful.

Just bought the cheapest Bosch we could afford from place in Birmingham that sells units new that have been replaced by newer models. Will try to remember am sure it was
