Another amazing weekend hosted by Richy & Jackie. Not much in terms of car issues. I think Zach lost more fluids than Stu's car but only just. pizza and fire on the beach was a great chill out for a Saturday night.

Have some video and a few pics which I will upload over the next few days.

Home safe now and ready for a long sleep.

#357595 Shocks / Springs From Superspec (Zimmer?)

Posted by Thrashed on 13 May 2016 - 02:11 PM

Hi Ed,
I have a Superspec and live near Coventry, could you keep them for me please ? As I am not sure how good my ones are and they would possibly prove useful.
Appreciate your kind offer and await your kind response.

Hi guys, if you sort out the deal, I only live in Bromsgrove so can pick them and and bring to the club meet for you Steve.

Let me know

#357462 Suspension Dyno And Corner Weighting

Posted by Thrashed on 11 May 2016 - 09:38 PM

Hi all

Some of you might remember that i was having the car corner weighted and suspension set up.

I was experiencing some weird handling characteristics, like self steering, massive understeer and the front getting light and floaty when driving over the crest of a hill.  It was also skittish on rough roads.

I have done a full write up that Derek will be putting in the magazine, but a summary of the work done was:

Shocks Dyno'd

Springs measured

Ride height

Geometry on all 4 wheels

In conclusion, what a difference.  I am surprised that driving it for 3 years has not resulted in me being dead!  So much was out of alignment, but the worst was the nyloc nuts holding the hubs on had worked loose causing the self steering i was experienced.  Left, it could have been a very sorry ending!

Ended up with softer springs on the rears and the geometry being set correctly as each wheel was wrong.  On the front it had positive camber and toe out and the rears were toe out one side and toe in the other.

Having done a drive home the car was totally transformed.  Gave me confidence like i have never had and also totally got rid of the floaty and self steering issues.  It is like going to a rolling road thinking the car is going well and OK and coming away with a massive power hike and engine that pulls smooth through the whole rev range.

I would like to thank Matt from Procomp motorsport for his help and dedication and Bob for being my wing man.  It was a long day as we arrived at 10am and left Matts at 8:30pm.  It was also an education on how and why different settings work or don't work and how your standard Kwik Fit can be so far out.

If you have every thought about getting this done, stop thinking and get it done, you will not be disappointment.

Drive safe and check your nuts guys and girls.

#354000 Any Engineers In The House?

#352219 Setting Up Front Wheels

Posted by Thrashed on 24 February 2016 - 06:56 PM

In my area i found it very difficult to get set up coorrectly, most new electronic system requires make/model etc. and Zero is not listed. Occassionally the odd system has caterham, there are a few race or rally people but not found one with experience on our cars.
any ideas for figures with Zero geometry?

Mark. I have been to see proComp in erdington. They set up race cars/ 750 club stuf and the price to Dyno the shocks, corner weight and set up as good a possible with what's already on the car was very reasonable. I have to stay and help for the whole day but seems educational too.

Will let you know how I get on.

Here are a few likes of video i took over the weekend:

Derek's mate - Think he was asking if you like Nescafe coffee? (other coffee brands are available)

Mini Adventure (for Trev & Suzanne), awesome little car

Nice day for a hat? - say no more!

Andy Footage - edited out anything that would get him into trouble and this is whats left.

Tunnels - sounds not great, but make 'brum, brum' noises and you get the feeling
