Fuel Sender And Gauge

Hi all,

I had a new fuel tank fabricated by Compbrake Motorsport and they included a new fuel sender. (before I did not have any type of fuelsender/gauge).

The sender has a range 3-150 Ohm.. 3 when empty, 150 when full. The VDO gauges are 3 when empty and 180 when full. Can I use this one? I know it will not be 100% but very close.

If not, I could use the information how I can make a sender resond with a fuel gauge adding resistance.. But I hav eno clue hw that works.

option 3 is buying a new fuelsender and gauge that are matched together.

Thanks for the itnerest in my post.

There are electronic gizmos that will do the job --- just adding a resistor will tell the gauge there's fuel left when there isn't ( with your resistances ) leave as is & see how it reads by adding a measured quantity of fuel when car is sat level --- when brim full the gauge should show nearly so.

Hi, Thanks for the quick response.
I haven't bought a fuelgauge yet so nothing to test, but the one comes close to 3-150 is the VDO 3-180. Therefor I addded this option.

What kind of Gizmo is there on the market? This would be great, that way I could use the gauge I want in stead of the one that fits best.

If you already have the VDO gauge I'd stick with it.

You definitely need to know when its empty, but its full when the fuel

gushes out of the filler. My guess (I know very little about electrics) is that it will

show just off full when the tank is full.

Car builder solutions sell the fuel gauge matcher. Others on here have had success with it but I couldn't get it to work. Probably just something I was doing wrong. I ended up getting a new sender and then adjusting it by bending the wire so altering it's operation so that I could get a better reading. It now reads full for ages but it is dead accurate at half a tank so that I know to think about filling up.

Thanks All,

To buy a gadget for 45 pounds. Living in the Netherlands with shipping and then to see if i get it working is a bit too much.

The VDO is 180 Ohm when full.. My sender is 150Ohm when full.. I guess the gauge will not say it's full when it's really full.. But that's no problem.. if the getting more empty part will work, that's fine with me.

I have a KOSO db02R speedo.. and this has a 100-510 Ohm range.. that never worked.
