Fuel Consumption Competetion

Joel

Recommended Posts

OK, I'm fed up of never quite knowing how much fuel I have left (dodgy setup on my fuel level sender), so I'm going to do the age old test of running it till it conks out.

So how many miles do you reckon it'll do?

2B on a pork pie diet.

40 litre tank filled to the brim.

Bog standard 2.0 pinto on Weber 2V carb and ESCII, etc.

Mostly 'enthusiastic' B-road driving.

I'll start the bidding at 150. Closest to the actual figure wins.......ummmm, I'll get back to you on that one ;) :D

"A bit is the smallest unit of information that is recognised by a computer, a single on/off event"

So what this has to do with fuel consumption I dont know

Anyway I will guess 173.5 miles :D

a single on/off event

I think that is the problem, Bill. His fuel gauge is probably doing just that.

Joel, it's much better to fill the tank up to the brim, zero the trip meter, drive around for a while (hundred-odd miles should do it), then refill it. Take the amount of fuel for the refill and the trip meter reading at the time of refil and do a bit of elementary maths and - hey presto - a MPG figure, without running out of petrol unexpectedly.

I like the jerry can in boot, let it splutter away from the lights and promtly stall on the otherside!!!! :D (never tried this myself honest!!! ;) )

In which case I'll go with 193.4miles!!!

its also an endearing description of a young lady

Brings a whole new meaning to the term "chomping at the bit" ;) :p

Errr....this is me we're talking about  I failed GCSE maths 3 times :(

I prefer the direct action approach

The problem with the fuel level sender is simply that I haven't set the float right, but I've already adjusted it twice, and it's now buried beneath a very permanent boot.

From memory the speedo was reading 2-3 mph out at all increments at SVA, so fairly accurate.
