Its the second ive seen, not sure on this, but the last one the seller said every part was brand new (expensive) maybe north wales test station or DVLA are a little more unaware of the reg process,

we know from experiance how these cars and reg process differs from place to place.

needs a good inspection before buying to make sure its as it should, not much of a discriptio to go off.

Well this is another typical example of the local DVLA office not knowing it's arse from it's elbow!

The wheels are the old style 13" jobs that where the favourites in the 70's (I think!) the engine certainly isn't new, so I'd suspect that the g/box & drive chain aren't either, also the clocks are the old sierra ones modified, new ones from RHSC are Escorts clocks.

Saying that though, it does from the photo's look a reasonably nice car. with the 07 plate, rightly or wrongly, it puts more value on it.

I thought that if you couldn't prove the age of your donor then it had to be registered as new? Surely that also means it has to go through 07 emissions regs and be taxed on the basis of co2/km? How on earth does he get an old pinto through modern emissions regs, I thought you needed a catalyst.

i understood it as it's possible if every item is professionally reconditioned to an as new standard (w/ receipts to prove), it can be registered as a new car, but w/ the old emissions regs relating to when the engine was made. That said, it looks like a DVLA cock up to me too!

The guidance for new registrations are on the dvla website. The relevant part is:

Kit Cars

Where all the parts of a vehicle are supplied new by the manufacturer. Subject to the provision of satisfactory receipts and a certificate of newness these vehicles will be registered under a current registration mark.

Kit cars which have been built using not more than one reconditioned component will also be registered under a current mark. This is subject to the provision of satisfactory evidence that the component has been reconditioned to an "as new" standard. An ESVA, SVA or MSVA test will be required.

I can't imagine from the description that this car should have an 07 plate.

Well he bought it for £3581 so wouldn't have thought he'd get any more than that.

my lightweight is regestered as new on a 56 plate but i think i may have spent more than the one listed on e bay.

i would concure that there are elements that would make me doubt the new reg , not doubt it exists but its validity must be in question

regards graham

ps

the emmisions are soley based on the age of the engine and a cat is only required for an engine that was equipped with one to start with, there is a cut of date and chris brown will know, its poss 1996

being the date of manufacture and not the date it was reconditioned to as new standards to comply with the dvla for new reg
