Wheel Wobble

Thrashed

Recommended Posts

Final outcome.....

Well the net result is the problem is fixed. Took car yesterday to get the spigot rings fitted and also had the wheels balanced.

Did a good 5 miles on the motorway at the speed limit and no sight of any vibrations,

The balance on the wheels was a fair bit out, so in conclusion, was it the spigot rings or balancing that fixed the problem? Dont know, dont care, its fixed!

My thoughts are that having the correct spigot rings fitted will not do any harm.

Just hope that if some one else is having the same issue this might give them a clue to a possible cure.

Now on to the next task.... stopping a pinto leaking oil. Pretty sure is might be a thing of myth, but going to have a try.

Guest mower man

My thoughts 1 probably was wheel balance but the main thing is you are happy 2 the only time pinto does not leak is when there is no oil in it 3 breathers correct level and nothing less than 20/50 may help mick :acute:

Thanks for the Pinto tips Mick. I know the breather are correct and only ever use 20/50 oil. Hoping my luck with easy fixes carries on.

Stockport Steve (TA!) put me on to this stuff.

Its not cheap, but its given me an oil tight Redtop, which nobody

ever thought was possible.

Highly recommended....

So would this be in replacement of a sump gasket or as well as?

my own setup with an SBD sump which already has a baffle plate fitted,

was to ditch the Vauxhall windage plate, & just use one cork gasket, with

sealant on both sides.....I may regret this if i ever try to dismantle it.

I'd do the same for a pinto, coat both sides of the cork gasket.

Follow the instructions on the tube.

If the wheel is only a fraction out of concentricity wont the balance be affected -- so ensuring the wheel is central before the nuts are fully tightened is a very good thing. Also to my non-engineers way of thinking if there is a possibility of movement on the studs then sods law rules & if it can go wrong it will -- some-when.

This is my thinking when putting wheels back on. I tend to tighten the nuts enough to hold the wheel and turn it round by hand whilst i bang the tyre with my fist just to ensure it has sat down properly and moved to the centre of each nut, then tighten a bit more each before full tightening. Also i tighten the nuts in opposite pairs. Probably way over thinking it but worst case it takes me 30-60secs longer to put a wheel on, best case my wheels are correctly seated.
