Paperwork done, payment taken, application accepted now waiting for appointment for my 2B.

however, i had requested Peterborough but got a letter to say Leighton Buzzard will be in touch, nowhere near Peterborough!!!

After some phone calls to DVSA I have been told that Peterborough is no longer doing IVA tests.

So what tips does anyone have for the Leighton Buzzard test centre?

How are tHey with bonnet vents? no trim fitted at moment, but seems that's up for debate?

Any tips more than welcome.

Slots for ventilation only need to be blunted -- i.e not a sharp edge & under 10mm gap -- had no trouble with Florins bonnet vents -- but that was Southampton 4 years ago.

Read the IVA manual & make a copy of relevant section to take with you -- but only use it if push comes to shove; no need to upset the tester; they all have their own take on the manual.

Go over your car with said list in hand.

Take it very keenly and cross each item off when inspected.

Should take you at least a half day.

This is well worth doing if done diligently.

I agree with Bob about the bonnet vents but mine did fail at Gillingham and one of the failures was the bonnet vents.

As it failed on a couple of other minor points I did not bother to argue, instead corrected the failure points and put trim on the vents and a pass.

That was August last year.

I would suggest that you put the trim on just for the test, better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck

The latest IVA manual on Google is far more detailed than of old. Section 16 Required Standard Notes 5.6.7.8. cover ventilation slots holes but then mess's this clarity by stating a little future down that metal edges must be a "safe" edge i.e turned back on itself through 180*.

Tha above would prove difficult for us amateurs.

Would mean either hot stretch work in a small area or splitting the metal at each end of the louvre and re welding.

This would mean the face of the leading edge of the louvre being behind the leading edge of the bonnet serface.

I'm no engineer with a degree but I can't see any other way of double edging.

Damn vosa.

Fit mini edging to be safe on this point. I did this at Southampton in November, which passed. Tester said that this was a grey area, which he would have passed without. Better to spend a couple of pounds, than to fail on a trivial point like this.

If I can get my S7 back on the road soon (currently seems to be one problem after another!), I would be more than happy to come over and have a look and see if there is anything you may have missed. I was going to use Leighton Buzzard but used Kidderminster instead; both were equidistant from me but the waiting time for LB was considerably longer.

Thanks chaps for the comments and help

i did read the forum before i started and got the general jist that its a good idea to use the IVA book as you go.

however there are abound to be areas your not sure about, the vents is one of them for me, as i have just got 10 feet of mini edging might as well use it.

the forum is good for learning of how others have had the same problems as you, clearly I am not under the impression mine is perfect, but I am trying to minimize potential areas for failure and who knows might end up with a pass.

plan to do a walk through maybe this weekend if my bonnet mod is finished. (got rid of crocodile bonnet and hinged it from about 18 inches from dash end).

Will put some photos up once its stops raining!!!
