Ngk Spark Plugs

Thrashed

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have been searching but cant find the answer to my spark plug question.

I have a Pinto which has an fr32 cam and increased compression so have replaced my standard APR6FS plugs with APR7fs plugs.

The question is, what gap should I have?

The Haynes manual for the standard plugs should be 1.0mm (0.039in).

Are the gaps factory set? or do I need to change them, if so to what?

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Steve

Do you have a standard or high power ignition?

I always go 0.6mm to 0.7mm, 25 to 30 thou give or take on standard points ignition. Even if engine is modified.

Open up to 1mm, 40thou if using a high performance ignition.

And always check the gaps, its a 30second job. Never trust it straight out the box.

If the gap is too big, the "spark" will jump to the closest easiest route. Tell tell signs will be evidence of arcing.

Also if you have time on your hands you could round the end of the electrode. It helps unshroud the flame and shows more of it to the mixture. Good for an honest 0.1hp.
