Hi, I've got my car almost 100% to my knowledge ready for the iva test, I was just wondering if someone in Aberdeen had their car done recently or knew what to look for and if they wouldn't mind coming over and having a look at the car. For a bit of beer money of course.

Two or three of what appear to be quite common failure points.

Seat belt mount positions.

Sharp edges, even on bonnet louvres and grill material.

Lighting hights. The last fail as far as I know on this was partially my fault. I replaced the front wishbones for a friend and nobody realised the car hight had changed after doing this. Indicators were just a couple of mm to low.

Bonnet louvres were picked up on the same car, but this I feel was wrong. Second tester could not believe why. Grill sharp edges were also unbelievable failure.

Lower belt mounts were to far forward so the belt went over legs and not around waist from behind. Also make sure they do not interfere

with the seats on the way past them. They could be rubbing on the headrests, or where they go through them on some seats.

Mirror positions is another quite common fail point.

Don't feel sad if you fail the first time as first time pass rate is quite low.

Even people like Caterham have their failures.

Some examiners seem to be over the top, whereas the older guys tend to know how to interpret the rule book correctly.

The main point is to learn by any mistakes and put right any failures before representing your car.to you and enjoy your future driving.

Good luck to you on your test and I hope you can enjoy driving your car really soon.

Ken.

Bonnet louvre are functional vents and so only need to be blunted. Same goes for any functional vent.

I agree totally Duck. You could also describe the front grill as a functional vent to.

Would you pease inform the younger examiners at Gillingham of this.

It was only on the front set of louvres.

The member used some panel edging strip the removed after retest.

The grill was pressed out diamond shape. Changed for s/s wire diamond shape.

Examiner said something about kids fingers getting stuck.

Wasn't bothered about their heads coming out the other side like chips though, LoL
