Just putting my dash together at the minute I have a load of savage switches that I plan on installing but for getting it through the Iva Im using the Sierra stalks so was just using the switches for the light up symbols (the telltales) will it be a problem using them although pressing it wouldnt do anything as its all on the Sierra equipment?

I was worried about this because I had a couple of switches that didn't do anything obvious. Reading the IVA manual didn't really help as it wasn't clear. So I just labelled them, one with a fan symbol (I don't have a fan), the other saying 'turbo' (no turbo) and crossed my fingers :-)

On the day, the tester hardly noticed them and didn't even try use them for anything. Having said that, my tester was pretty laid back but I think you'll be OK - the manual doesn't say you can't have switches that do nothing, it just lists what you MUST have.

On mine I have :

Horn button on the dash with just the word "horn" underneath it. Examiner was fine with this.

A switch on the dash that does nothing (it was originally intended for the ECU), with no label. The examiner did ask what it did, when I explained to him nothing he was also fine with it.

As to using switches as warning lights, I must admit that's a funny one. I guess it would be bad if there is a switch there, marked with (say) a sidelight emblem, that you are using to indicate the sidelights are on but, from a switch perspective, it's doing nothing and you're switching from the steering column. In the spirit of the rules, I'd think this is a fail, since the marked switch is insinuating that's how you switch on the side lights...?
