The hydraulics move the piston up a threaded mechanism for normal braking. The handbrake mechanically pushes the whole threaded mechanism and therefore pushes the piston. So, although the handbrake is mechanical it wont work properly if the hydraulics aren't pushing the piston to the correct place. The hydraulics are the "self adjuster" for the handbrake.

Mick, must agree, simple is always best, but the Zero calliper IS upside down, so you have to turn them first before anything will bleed them, fancy tool or your method.

just to answer a few yes the callipers are are clean and lubricated and wound out just enough to get back onto disc and are fitted upside down because that's the only way they will fit
