Garage Size

Our first garage was a prefab with ridiculous footings because building inspector was slightly fussy to say the least. Check my short build blog #3, I had 6 inches to the front and rear of the car and 2foot on one side. Spent most of the time moving the car sideways on trolley jacks. Even now I have move to a double garage it is still to small.

The concrete pre-formed panels will sweat as soon as it's warmer inside than out as the panel is only around 25mm thick. Would suggest the bolts holding the panels together also hold an angle iron bracket -- fix horizontal battens to these & 8 x 4 ply sheets to the battens --fill void between concrete & ply with glass-fibre wool. Myself I would also use a barrier material under the battens (as used under tiles -Tyvex ? ) I used 18mm shuttering ply on the re-built garage for Florin then anything can be fixed where-ever.

Nice project Jaimo.

Should be plenary big enough, especially if you work tidily and clean up after jobs.

About the ply board. Yes Florin got it right. However if there is plea to of damp about, use marine ply to stop it blowing.

Happy new year mate.

Well dumped the 3 ton of rubble out of garage and now realisead as bob said some of panels wet through its not ventalation as not yet sealed like a wind tunnel to be honest

So whats best way to stop this

Such as insulate etc

Damp proof poly sheeting - 1000 gauge -- horizontal batten at concrete panel joint bolts -- vertical battens at 2 foot centres for 18/20mm ply or 16" centres for 12/15mm -- fibre-glass insulation between concrete & ply -- cut & snug fit not compressed too much.

Can any-one suggest better? The above is how my shop was built but single brick outer -- plus double glazed windows & a wood burner in the corner.

The up & over door will be a problem -- single skin metal & very hard to draught-proof. With a works garage we had a plastic sheet on the inside which could be clipped into channelling all round & heavy mat holding down on floor, great to stop the draught & condensation -- just a little slower to get the vehicle out ( had a side door for when working access required.
