Super Spec Wiring (Again)

Hi all

Im currently delving into the murky depths of my super spec wiring, I have to thank Alan Richey for allowing me to copy his wiring diagram. I have also the original car builders notes but I know he found it a struggle and I think him moving house in the middle of the build have slightly muddied the waters regarding his notes. He talks about a "12v wiring module" which looks to have 20 connections, does this ring a bell with anyone?

To be blunt its a bit of a dogs dinner with wires just "pushed" into connectors then covered with some black gunk to keep them in place but a lot of it is beginning to come apart the more I play with the electrics.

I have since been browsing through old posts on here and I have found mention of an "issue 5" diagram (Alans is original issue) and a 6 page addendum. I have also bought an escort haynes manual just to help with the dash wiring.

So after this ramble, Im looking for the latest version of the wiring diagram (issue 5) and if this 6 page document exists

Graeme.

As per PM I've compared Al's original issue wiring diagram with mine which is marked as issue 5, and I can see no differences at all!

I've no idea what your builder's reference to the 12v wiring module with 20 connections is about. I don't have one of those on my Superspec.

Same here. I have a 36 pin connector for the ECU and 2 x 12 pin connectors for the Instrument cluster, but nothing like a 20 pin connector.

The instrument cluster is very simple and the connections are detailed in my blog at http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-electrics-project-services.html

Can't remember if I have already sent it to you, but I also have a copy of Chapter 14 of the Haynes manual on ECUs that covers our MEMS 1.6. Absolutely essential reading. It's available at http://www.rmrsoft.com/mems.pdf

Very difficult to read, but I get the impression it's a home built unit for accessories. Paradoxically I actually have a similar thing I mounted behind my dashboard. Each time I added a new accessory (voltmeter, oil pressure gauge, parking sensors, dash cam... I found I needed a 12V ignition switch feed. So I found a spare one (a white plug) and built a multliway connector from a choc block and that provided me with about 16 holes each of which provided a 12V ignition switched supply.

Just watched the original build video and some of the elecrics make a but more sense, I thought it was all 1 loom, didn't realize the engine loom was separate and that the 2 or 3 large white blocks are from the stalks

Well I have found out what the 12v module is , its this from car builder solutions

www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/cbs-12-circuit-wiring-module

I saw this under bonnet and assumed it came from RH, only when reading his build notes did I come across mention of using a 12v module and hey presto found it and theres a wiring diagram as well :clapping:

I might email them and see if there were any other install instructions

Makes sense. My admiration for your builder goes up again. Except that means that he has redesigned the whole wiring system so our wiring diagram will be of no help. Pity he didn't provide you with a wiring diagram of what he changed.

Yeah Ive realized that the diagram is of limited use but at least it gives me some of the dashboard connections and a good basis to investigate some of it, still cant work out the damn wiper stalk though, need to get it sorted as the washer is an mot item!!!.

Ive emailed car builder solutions to see if anymore info can be supplied regarding the module

It seemed he kept really good notes up till the wiring then its a bit vague, I think that was when they moved from the midlands down to cornwall and I think the car stood for a while with no work being done because he mentions about having to try and remember where he was upto with the wiring!!

There is a diagram of the control unit on the website so heres hoping he used that as a base

All part of the fun!! :nea:
