Zetec Blacktop In The Zero

In standard form there is little power difference between bike carbs and injection there are pros and cons. But should see 160 to 175 from either with a good tune up. It's only if you are planning on silly things like turbo's or superchargers were it make sense to start with injection. Bike carb kit should be no where near what duck has stated I would have said £600-800 max all in which is about the price of a good eco to run injection.

I don't honestly know, but I would suspect so given some faffing around with tuning by an expert... and don't forget a cat too. At least 200 cell, but maybe go 400 if you want to be "sure". I've heard some people design their exhaust system so that cat is easily removeable and then rip it off afterwards... tsk tsk <cough> ;) :D

edit: Ultimately there must be someone on this forum, who runs a car on bike carbs and has had to go through IVA.... right? Speak up people :) ?!

I was quoting the price for complete setup with nodiz that DanST sell.

EDIT: Just realised I was looking at a TB kit - https://danstengineering.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=59_76_115&product_id=367&sort=p.price&order=DESC

rather than carb kit which is £960 https://danstengineering.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=59_76_115&product_id=329&sort=p.price&order=DESC

I would actually say make sure you budget some time spent on a proper gas analyser. Stu will know where I'm going here, I'm not disrespecting rolling road tuners in the slightest, but their job is probably aimed more at getting good power and a good lambda figure - but they won't ultimately be able to tell you if you'll pass the emissions test without checking on a proper gas analyser. So my advice would be find a rolling road that has one and can tune to the emissions as well as power. Failing that, find a friendly MOT test station that will let you run your car up on their analyser to check before the IVA and, if you have the knowledge/skills, tweak your carbs accordingly to get a pass.

Otherwise you will be to and fro between failed IVA test and a rolling road/engine tuning specialist until you get it right. This is why mappable injection is so much easier, pretty much anyone willing to read up on how to do it can connect a laptop and tweak their fueling/advance accordingly.

Just factor it in to your costings, that's all. It's very good to look at bottom line hardware costs but you really need to factor in time and effort - and costs of knowledgeable resources, if you're going to require them - in the overall picture.

You can get an omex ecu and a setup that uses all the stock Ford electronics and components. It does use a different intake manifold to mount the TB. This will enable you to run a detuned map for MoT for emmisions, and then a full power map for track days. You can probably use any ecu to be fair but clearly must be EFI.

If you have the time and dont mind playing then i see no reason why you cant use you carbs and a programmable ignition for now, then upgrade to bike TBs at a latter date.

You would need to build it up initialy to future proof yourself first.
