Drive Shaft Gaiter Fitting Problem

CAF

Recommended Posts

I had a split gaiter and when I took out the drive shaft I found that the lip that the gaiter in clamped on has broken off, I have been on the web looking for somebody who could repair it or a possible new one, but getting the Drive Shaft Problem.pdf new one looks a difficult task. Does anybody know of a refurbishment company?

I don't think that broke off looks like some things cut into it, has the driveshaft been hitting the body work thats just behind it. I think this was a common problem on early S7s, on my S7 (sold long ago) the drive shaft gaitors both got cut by the rear body work when bottoming out. The solution for mine was caravan spring assistors into the sierra springs and some trimming of the body.

Sorry cant help with the driveshaft though.

The picture I attached shows the broken off lip that the gaiter should be fitted to, I cut it off, sorry if that's confused a few. I live in Dorset but will go any where to get it refurbished / repaired!

Guys, Have been looking all over the WEB, trying to find a near side Sierra LX (1986) drive shaft, new, refurbished, repairer or secondhand, but they are like gold dust, any suggestions?

The ones Lonboarder showed on ebay are a complete kit and fairly easy to fit with a little patience and a hammer to pan sleave edges over.

I remember a Sierra at one of my local scrappies. Last I knew, they had dumped it at the very back out of the way.

I got the steering column covers from them at a silly price, like they didn't know their real value. I could go and see if it's still there and what bits are left on it ...

Simon.
