Connectors

Just about to start connecting some of the wires, in addition to finding it a bit daunting I am keen to make sure I use the right connectors. I was thinking about using mainly insulated crimped spade connectors, is this okay or should I be soldering all the wires and be using heat shrink over the joins?

Any advice would be great.

For insulated crimps ( amp-tags) I wired the whole of Florin with Draper Expert ratchet crimp pliers suitable for 0.5 to 6.0mm conductors Stock code 35574 The beauty of this tool is the ratchet will not release the terminal until it is fully set. Heat shrink is a good extra as it helps displace the possibility of a sharp bend in the conductor.

There is loads of good stuff to use out there and as said previously, it all depends on whether you are intending for the wiring to be permanent or removeable (ie on the back of switches and relays etc). If you have a look at these web sites you will find loads of nice goodies and they also have all of the OEM type connectors and finishing products to make your wiring "assault" look a bit more professional! Lol! I found that the pre-insulated crimps can sometimes look a bit bulky and I ended up pulling the insulation off and using heat shrink instead.
