5Inch Id Steel Tube?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

musing on fabricating a new rear end for the 2b using the haynes roadster (irs version) and the design calls for 5inch ID tube for the hub carrier.

I can find 5inch OD tube but not ID.

Is it likely to be that much of a problem? i am assuming a 3mm sidewall to the tube.

It's there but you just can't find it. Generally if it's soft ie hose then it's measured by inside diameter and if it's hard then it's outside diameter. You probably know this anyway. Where are you looking, I find I can find most of what I need on eBay. I don't always buy it from there but it's a good place to get the information from.

Hi Ryan.

I would see if you have a steel fabricator nearbye who fabricates steel buildings as this is quite a common size for brace tubes and you may get offcuts cheaper.

Its 139 dia CHS (circular hollow section) if you have a gusset on the outside put the seam under the weld.

Best of luck with your venture.

Best regards

Allan

ah that's really useful to know. There is a steel place nearby i can ask.

May be some time before this gets more than just musing as i have a load of jobs to do but my mind is itching at the thought of a better rear end setup.

thanks
