Has any one attempted fitting of a duratach 2.3 engine to a super spec? If so what are the pit falls?

Regards

Nick

I think the Superspec is easier to change the engine on as it doesn't have the 'plough' running across the lower engine bay Nick.

Means there is less hassle with sumps and positioning!!

Should be easily do-able, your reference point will be the gearbox. The only problem you may encounter will be with the gearbox itself.

The Superspec MT75 gearbox was for a LHD V6, the input shaft is longer (don't know how this will suit the 2.3 Duratec), but the bell housing pattern is slightly different, the 2 top bolt holes on the bell housing are closer together than those on the 'standard' MT75.

When I had my Rover engine changed to a Zetec, I had to get another gearbox box to match the bell housing bolt pattern on the Zetec.

One main point - the exhaust comes out of the other side on a duratec :)

2.3 lump, in US spec, has a very strong bottom end. It's also all-alloy. If I was going new build I'd definately be going Duratec over Zetec. But the Zetec is an easier option for most Hoods.

with the 2b, the plough was in the way.

also the cross member that runs above the bellhousing, needed modifying....

that was with a 2.0l duratec, and a long input shaft type 9

Duratec is an inherited engine from when Ford owned Mazda so bellhousing bolt pattern is different from ford pattern

Rally Design do a conversion bellhousing for Type 9

MT75 is fixed so won't fit without adaptor plate

I believe MX5 gearbox will fit
