The c20xe redtop wont rev above tickover , i have checked coil , ignition , new crank sensor, i have r1 carbs on it i have drilled jets to 1.8mm and needles are 1 notch up from the bottom the plugs are very black ans sooty. When i am turning over to

start the engine it pops and hydraulics and backfires out of the carbs and the exhaust Are these signs of anything? Are jets too big ext ? Thanx lew

1.8 is a bit on the large side and sounds like a diaphragm not sealed properly and if it looks like its running rich already wot have you got the idle mixture screws set at and drop the needles another notch

1.8 is too big from my experience. I had 1.7mm mains and the needles ended up being one notch down front the top with 5 notches on the needle.

I think you'll have to ask on a bike forum about float height but so long as the floats and valves are in good condition and working properly you should be okay.

take a look here there are lots of bits of info here that should help. Bike carbs can suffer from float height problems and the first symptoms are sooty plugs and unresponsive mixture screws try to set the heights off the car with fuel flowing through the carbs as you set the hieght dont just assume that the seat is closed when it looks like it make sure the fuel stops at the correct setting
