What's the purpose of the large bell washer that goes on the large mounting bolt that fixes the tail housing to the rear mounting?

Believe it will stop the gearbox & prop " jack knifing" in the even of the rubber failing.

The rear crossmember would stop the gearbox from dropping if the mount failed. The bell washer is more likely to be a support for when the engine and gearbox are stuffed up in to the body when the car's are built.
