Hand Brake Cable ... Which One?

Gentlemen ... and ladies ...

My 'hoodie' is a Series III monocoque, built in 1997 - it's celebrating it's 20th birthday this year.

Just had it MOTd. It passed, but my friendly mechanic/engineer told me that the cable was partially seized and will need replacing soon.

He stripped it down, freed it, rebuilt it but advised replacement before the winter.

He considered replacing the cable whilst it was off but could not tell whether it was off a sierra, Cortina - or any other Ford derivative from the day.

Once I get the car back - is there an easy way to identify which cable to purchase, before removing the current one and leaving me without a useable car?

Thanks

Alan

The cable will be a sierra cable that is shortened.

The outer is standard and the inner is shortened by cutting the end off and swageing a new ferrul on the end.

Use the old cable as a guide as how much to shorten

as above you can swage the end on or i've had pretty good success (i.e. it hasn't come off yet) by welding the end on. I've got a little hobby lathe so i centre drilled a small bolt, passed this over the cable and then welded the cable to the bolt.
