Hi, Has anyone sealed the rocker cover with just gasket sealant and it's worked?

Just done the tappets and now gasket won't seal as it's gone hard. it was an original type only been on a short time as well.

So to get to Stoneleigh I need to seal the rocker with gasket sealant, but tried and failed, oil leaking out everywhere. But it could be that I didn't leave it to harden long enough?

If you need sealer, the gasket is obviously pretty shot. Just use whatever you've got for now (silicone type is ideal) and don't tighten the bolts too hard, let it set overnight and then give the bolts another quarter to half a turn tomorrow.

If its a pinto. You've probably done the bolts up too tight. Take em out dress the bolt holes of the cover up with a hammer just to make it nice and flat. Then pop it back on not too tight.

If its not a pinto then just ignore me

On pinto rocker covers I always do the two front bolts, the ones that go into the sides of the front cam bearing carrier just finger tight first. Then do the rest of the bolts to correct tightness. Then go back to those two front bolts and tighten them last.
