Hi

This may be a stupid question , but i have a 2.0 pinto in my s7 and the Exhaust manifold need to be replaced. The original was a 4.2.1 but in error i now have a 4.1 but it wont fit. would I be better expanding the hole to make the 4.1 fit , or purchase a 4.2.1

any advice welcome

Thanks

Joe

Sorry but you do not explain yourself very well, is it just the hole in the side panel that needs to be in a different position or what?

If it is then cut the hole to suit then make a cover plate to finish off the change.

4 in to 1 manifold was supplied by Robin Hood back in the day so it will work fine.

Purists will tell you 4-2-1 better for torque and 4-1 better for top end.

Exhaust manifold tuning is a black art and uses shock wave reflection from the exhaust valve and is controlled by manifold tube length and diameter using a choice of harmonics.

It is very unlikely any exhaust manifold will be correct for your setup and also very unlikely it will cause any noticeable reduction in bhp or torque.

If it fits fit it

There are 2 possible problems changing from the RH 4:2:1 to their 4:1 manifold on a monocoque. Firstly the hole in the body side needs to be opened up forewards, I have a picture somewhere when I did it but can't find it at the moment. The next one, depending on the build the steering column may foul the manifold, I was lucky and it cleared. Fitting the manifold with the engine in place is tricky, it is possible by loosening the engine mounts and jacking up the engine to one side. The original manifold is not very efficient as the header lengths are all very different, the 4:1 is much better and sounds nicer. If you do a search on here you should find more information.

When you say it doesn't fit, do you mean you can't fit it with the engine in place. They are hard to fit on the monocoque cars. At least I found mine hard to fit and remove with the engine in the car. Once I took the head off to fit the manifold. Another time I undid the two front engine mounts and swung the engine aside on a crane which enabled me to fiddle the manifold into place.

I can just get my manifold in and out on my monocoque but I haven't got a servo and I move the steering column extension out of the way. I then get the manifold out by twisting it round with a sort of corkscrew action as I manoeuvre it back and upwards

I have a 4-2-1 fitted but have aquired a 4-1 as 2nd pic of peters above but the down pipes have been slightly flattened to miss steering is it worth fitting in place or if sell whats it worth
