Hi, i have a 1600 sierra in an old Ford and sometime back the whining and clonking started. Took awhile to pin point the culprit,as it all pointed to the Diff (RS 2000) This was red hot on left drive shaft side. Ashamed to say it was oilless so administered the diff oil hoping the damage hasn`t already occured. Replaced the pressed bearing on hub, half hoping it may be part of prob.

Cutting it short as a long story to get where i am today. Gearbox specialists insist the box was at fault so went in search for doner.

Had to pull engine and box out, replaced gearbox with a K9 A type 5 speed from a late Cortina, given to me by a chap in Norfolk.

This is the prob i have, on the original gearbox which was also a 5 speed.i had the speedo drive.Yet this box i have just fitted has none? There is a round thing with wires coming out and a plug. Also an earth strap on same fitting. The reverse lite fitting is on the oppisite side.Could this be an electric type speedo fitting? Im stumped on what i can do for speedo drive?

Great site by the way, found this through Colin Ushers site.

This leads me on to another query.

Gearbox output shaft to prop. Having just fitted the engine and box in the car, mated the prop. I saw something on Colins site relating to matching spline count on box and prop splines? Am i to pull the prop and count splines? Guess what im doing today

Cheers guys.

if you got it together, and it "feels" right, then it's OK. smaller output splines also have smaller O/D oil seal dia's.

i think that you could have problems with the speedo, you may have to go to an electric one, or find a later dated g/box with everything where it should be!

I've no doubt someone will give you the information.
