Rear Coilovers

Hi all i have a 2b with coilovers, there's a massive arch gap on the rear, I thought about dropping the arches but looks a lot of work.

I then noticed the coilover mounting tubes are sticking out the roll bar about 2 inch.

Could I slide it further into the roll bar then get Presto less arch gap

Unfortunately its a design feature... :aggressive: .....lord only knows why.

Several members have lowered the arches then in filled the gap left between the arch and the chassis,

It is possible to lower the car a bit but you will then need camber compensators....do a search on here for more info.

IIRC the distance below the bottom of the bodywork immediately in front of the rear arch should be between 6 &1/2 & 7 inches

the superspec grp wings were designed to sit lower. If you do a google image search of a superspec you'll see they have a larger infill panel above the wing.

Something i've thought about doing to disguise the gap a little is to add 'spats' to bring the top edge down a bit without moving the actual arch. quick google search to illustrate what i mean https://i.ebayimg.com/i13/07/i/000/a7/22/f5b9_35.JPG. If it was just a black spat or even carbon fibre looking etc it might just work as a 'feature'

my car isn't particularly low but still had too much camber and toe-in so recently fitted camber shims and it's much better now.

By lifting the diff it actually pushes the top of the wheel back out towards the vertical. On mine when I built it I used just one bolt to mount the diff using the bottom hole of the two on the diff and the top hole in the mounting plate. the wheels on mine stand almost vertically. Because the dif is mounted to the beam it lifts that too, the outer mounts are fixed where they mount to the car.

How easy is it to lower the rear arches, mine have about 30 bolts on the inside holding them to the body.

So I'm guessing non on them would line up. I might look into superspec arches

Look for a set of the laughable CD "instruction" manuals.

It was designed to have the arches fitted lower & then have a crescent shaped

panel fitted between the curved chasssis rail and the arch.

\but the instructions arent very clear & it was far easier to attach the arch to the underside of the curved

rail, which is what I (& many others) ended up doing.

But teh CDs may give you some clues.

I think it's just going to have to be the case of unbolt 1 arch and have a mess around with the positioning, looks like a monster truck at the minute on the rear end

Does anyone have any measurements of the rear arches. The front and back edge from the ground. Also the side of the chassis just to see what mine is compared to a few others
