Sliding Pillar Exploded View Or Order Of Parts To Be Fitted?

hi, i am really struggling with the order in which to build up the sliding pillar suspension on the 2b i have just brought part built. both sides have been built up different from each other and i don't think either is right! there seems to be a lot of thread sticking out of the top and i can't imagine that it is the right way of doing things to simply just cut it off. any help with this issue would be gratefully received! ideally an exploded view or hand drawn sketch or just an order of which parts and how many washers and where things go would be extremely useful. i also have what appears to be a pair of polybush's and two top hat spacers that seem to have something to do with the suspension and two bigger bearings that haven't even been fitted, maybe they were intended as upgrades or just never fitted but they really have got me confused! again, any help would really be appreciated.

on mine there is a plate under the lower arm which is held on by 2 small bolts with the sliding pillar going through the center.

above the arm is a rubber bush (this is what the suspension would top out on ,stops metal to metal contact)

then the hub assembly on top of goes the cycle wing bracket, then the spring then the upper bump stop

then the damper bracket ,then the bearing ,then i have an alloy spacer to spread the weight ,this fits under the upper arm ,with a plate like the lower one with 2 bolts to hold in place.

Use threadlock on the lower pillar bolt 2...nearly lost mine, not good

hope that helps. sorry no pics. car isnt with me.

thanks for the reply, seems i have a lot of excess parts! do you have washers between the bearing or does it sit straight on top of the plate and sandwich between the spacer? also the bottom threaded bar that goes through the bottom arm seems to have a lot of non threaded bar sticking through the arm maybe 10mm or so is this just to be taken up with washers so that the nut will hold the bar tight? I've heard a lot of people say that when the bush wears this part of the bar catches on the wheel, surely it doesn't have to be cut off as there is rather a lot sticking through already?

mine sticks though the length of the nut and about 5mm after that

I cant remember a washer on top of the plate before the bearing ,but i cant say definately on that.

send tazzzman a message he knows them inside out. and may be able to confirm that

thank you for the replies, will have another crack at it tomorrow! think mine will be ok on the lower bolt due to having 15' alloys already, just seems strange that there is still a lot of thread showing past the bolt. i suppose after its all working and tightened up, there is no reason not to cut the remaining thread off!

I have attached some photos of the sliding pillar that I took off my 2B recently. I rebuilt them off the car as I was asked by some else how it should be put together. Regarding the excess thread there should not be more than say, 5mm at the top and less at the bottom. The biggest problem you will find is that the more that protrudes from the bottom nut the greater the chance the thread will make contact with the inside rim of the wheel under heavy cornering. I would recommend fitting a bump stop inside the spring on the pillar as can be seen in one or two of the photos

Hope these help?
