Yes it is. I'm looking to do it too.

Bought one engine that didn't turn up.

Waiting money back from paypal to get another.

Maybe next year now. Don't want to waste any good weather.

Cheers for the quick replies and maps, I'll have a look at a few of the suggestions and try some next week.

Thinking about it, when I dip the throttle and it stalls it does sound like it is taking in too much air. I'll see if I can record a clip next week and post - however going to look around for a good rr as that sounds like it may be the quickest solution....albeit summer doesn't seem to be turning up anytime soon!

Your not running lean then, for the cost of rr i bet there would be improvements in both your engines. I bet a pint that your afr will be out somewhere in the rev range. My pinto v8 and zetec have all ben improved greatly by rr session's

every intention of rr mine, running to iron out any issues first like found oil leak and gearbox knocking on chassis to sort. I started off being gentle with her, but she runs that well i have given it some on few occations if rr improves things fatastic but happy if she runs as is and have peice of mind she is set up right.

R1 carbs are fully adjustable and probably one of the best set ups.

Have a look at this

http://www.totalvaux...4.tech60697.pdf

Strip and clean everything, use carb cleaner, dont get any on the rubber diaphragms, use a pressure hose or bike pump to

blow out all the holes and jets, start with 1.4 or 1.5mm main jets and wind the idle jets all the way in and then 21/2 turns out.

Check all the floats are set, inspect diaphragms for splits. Put in a zetec base map and start from there.

Oh and definitely make sure you set the Throttle Position Sensor on megajolt before you start

You definitely get more margin for error with a normally aspirated engine. If you're lucky you'll get it almost right without a rolling road set up and it'll run well and put a smile on your face.

If you're going for forced induction then a good set up is a must, as said I learnt a very expensive lesson about this with two melted pistons and rebuild costs from mapping by someone who thought he knew what he was doing.

good luck make sure you get some spare pistons

Hahahahaha. I think I've already paid enough extra thanks.

It will go by trailer to get set up

If I am fortunate enough to proceed with it at some point.

On my Pinto with R1 carbs I need to warm it up on choke before applying any throttle. I think you may be a bit small with the std jets I know there seems to be little consistency re jet sizes on Bike carbs but mine are 165 started with 170s. You can fit Weber DGAV/DGAS main jets in Mikuni carbs if you don't want to start drilling.

Just for info my tuned pinto ie fr32 injected head raised comp etc had 1.4mm main jets when on the gbs recommended 1.6 it barely ran, that was on fireblade carbs. The point of rr is to fine tune it to run as nice and safe as possable. Not about bhp.. if you lucky enough to find some one with an identical engine to copy then yes it will be pretty close but all engines are different and will have different set ups to get them perfect. My 1st rr on the dyno with my webers and zetec poked out 152 bhp at the wheel but ran like a pig, changed jets tubes and chokes and ha presto it ran like a production car but lost 10bhp. Also improved mpg. All the above is just my opinion based on many years experience of modifying engines in cars and bikes..
