HI ALL

Can you get done if a camera goes off when your travelling towards them, with lines on both side's of the road? It was strange as its a 30 was doing 38, (got digi read out in motor) and i was right at the beginning of the lines so quite far away from camera. There was a 4x4 in front but couldn't tell weather he set it off or not.

Nothing was coming the other way.

At this rate i'll just be sitting in the rh with no license, i'am doing 45,000 miles a year so prone to finding mobile's on motorway bridges, mainly on m4 in south wales. <_<

Phew should be ok, got this off a camera guide web site. " Fixed installation post (F.I.P) Gatso speed cameras are rear facing as they use a 'flash' to capture the image required for prosecution, which would distract a driver if forward facing.

Hi Ref Gatso cameras.

I have a feind in traffic police in Essex, and that happened to me. She told me that all Gatso are set to take a picture from the rear and are focused on one area of the road. The scanning area is more difficult to set and the radar sometimes "bleeds over" to the other side of the road by a couple of feet. If you drive too close to the white line it can sometimes set them off, but due to the focus area of the camera, it takes a picture of an empty road. The pictures taken can only be used for prosecution if there are no other vehicles in the picture field. so she told me that if someone was tailgating you then there would be the possibility thet it could have been either car. Therefore not allowable. That is why the field of focus has to be small. They also take 2 pics. So if you set it off oing the other way, then the poor sap who was driving at the right speed in the field of focus doesn't get done cause they check it by counting the stripes he has passed between one pic and the other. After having found this out, I had great fun on my bike driving right on the white lind towards cameras when cars were going the other way fooling them into thinking they just got done when they hadn't!

A guy cut me up at some traffic lights last night so as he went through a camera a couple of miles on I flashed the main-beams twice. The affect was amazing - he slammed on the brakes, despite the fact that he wasn't doing over 30, and did 28mph for the next few miles even though there were other cars between us by then. Hopefully he's worrying about a speeding ticket and it spoils his festive period - I know it's petty and childish but hey it's payback and he's was driving like an idiot so he deserves it.

i had a tailgater the other night, must have been only five feet between us, (i couldnt see her in the wing mirrors) then i speeded up but drove close to the inside, then pulled out at last min for the parked cars, she nearly *bleep* herself when she relised how close to hitting the parked cars she was, soon backed off :D :p

you can add a position and get all the places where there are cameras ..plan your route check for cameras first...but ther is a time and place for speeding

I have seen a case where two cars (one tailgating the other) went through a speed camara too fast - setting it off. The police prosecuted the second car for dangerous driving because of the combination of the speed and closeness to the first vehicle it was (it had to go to court).

Another interesting fact is that certain shapes of cars and vans are known to give false readings because of the shape of their bodywork but this only occurs in situations. I haven't been able to which cars and vans this applies to.

thats incorrect...the camera flashes twice with 0.5 seconds between the flashes and the speed is worked out from the distace travelled...hence the little while dashes in the road...

as Glynn just posted different shape cars and vans do give false readings but on the van or hand held guns.. Discos VW flat fronted etc ..i was done 47 in a 30 zone ..i had passed the check every morning for a week and stuck to 30 cos i new it was there but the ticket still said 47.. after visiting the chief constable my solicitor said pay the fine as the bill to fight it would cost a hundred times more..

i dont know if the gatso thing varies on vans or flat fronted cars
