Evening folks,

Apoligies for not posting up more frequently, am not really a techy kinda guy. Spanners, hammers and paint yeas, but pc`s, sorry......

Almost ready for my IVA Test, and I seem to have hit a wee snag ! DVLA issued me with a new VIN Number. Got the tags made up and stamped the chassis as they requested. Local garage okay`d this for me.

Problem is, they are asking for the original receipt for the chassis to prove it is new and unused ?? This project has been in my hands for 18 months or so, and changed hands 3 or 4 times before I bought it. Cant trace the original buyer !! I reckon its been 10 years at least !!! DVLA informed me that GBS acquired Robin Hood and I should contact them ??

Any advice or help here would be gratefully received.

Heres a pic of when I picked it up..

Many thanks in advance.

Stevie

"...and as result you get a Q plate." or a New plate, or an Age related or a Dinner plate  DVLA randomly applying rules since 1965.

That isn't actually a standard 2b chassis so depending on how fussy and knowledgeable (who knows someone at dvla might know whats going on) the person is they might pick up on the front suspension, although unlikely i guess. Maybe you could 'find' a reciept from Robin hood in your paperwork ;)

Car is looking nice. I can't quite see from the pics but are the light holders sufficiently rounded? You also might find the front indicators are not far enough apart. Mine were ok like that for SVA but i know some people had problems and had to fit 'extenders'. Might be worth just checking the measurements if you haven't already.

That's a nice looking rear end. Is that steel under there with the gaps filled or is it all glass fibred?

It would be a good idea to check if the windscreen is marked to suit the IVA requirements or it will fail, better to remove it if not.

I took mine without the screen fitted. Also check that the front indicators are no more than 400mm from the outer edge.

Side repeater lights to be visible over the rear arches between 5 deg and 60 deg from the rear so may be fitted to low.

The rear fog light has to be at 90 deg to the ground and check the height measurement also.

All nut heads to be covered and NO sharp edges, also check interior for correct radius under dashboard.

Hope this helps.

Regards Martin

Thank you.

It's looks very similar to a later model sliding pillar 2b with the STS / RS Jigtec front wishbone conversion. I had this (before it was reshaped by a new driver) and had problems with the top ball joint exceeding the limit of travel on compression of the suspension and at limits of steering, leading to wear and stiffness in the joint, and ride harshness. Nothing critical, but worth keeping an eye out.

Congrats on nearing the completion of your build, it looks stunning :)

Stevie,

How did you make the transition part from windscreen to bonnet?

Is it rigid or flexible, what materials, what is it attached to?

I've got a T moulding on my Zero which is standard build - but it never really fits the space - perhaps should be my first foray into something GRP?

(Nothing to do with your IVA, just interested in how you did that part)

Cheers

Sorry for the delay in replying, been in Turkey on holiday.

Made myself a cardboard pattern shape of the scuttle panel. Set the screen down on spacers and sussed out the rake I would like.

Made another cardboard pattern of this. Joined the two together and did a wee touch of adjustment. Got some nylon bar, approx. 3"/75mm x 11/4"/30mm and just ground it to the shape required. Wee chamfer and plenty of trial and error ! When I was happy, I screwed it to the scuttle with plenty of Sikaflex. Bonded it all in place with clamps, mole grips, bits of timber and straps from the roof, (you get the (idea)

Left it a few days and then laminated over it with fine matting. Wee skim of filler to blend in, and its done..
