Hi Guys

Some advice please?

I have a generic electric cooling fan fitted to my rad, it works Ok and since the new rad was fitted seems to be OK but....always on the lookout to make the car as good as it can be so :

Any recommendations on fans please ? my current unit is a 120w 12v , ( I think ) flebay special.

what is the best available?

where do I get one from?

thanks guys.

Craig

I would also recommend SPAL. I have one on the Zero that's a hand-me-down from a competition car; despite missing 2 blades it shifts a massive amount of air :) and the one on the competition car (with a full compliment of blades!) does serious business.

Don't be fooled thinking a fan is just a fan; I believe there's a LOT goes into the design and profiling of the blades to maximise efficiency on the high-end fans; stuff that cheap eBay specials are unlikely to get right.

Other issues can contribute to a bad cooling system, of course, but just keeping the discussion on the topic of fans, I'd give either of Dan's suggestions a thumbs up.

The kenlowe units are good if you need serious cooling.. I dont like the twin speed controller that they come with though, and the fan is very thick.

Im using a Comex slimline at the moment and it fits the bill perfectly

Couple of basic principles to bear in mind for maximum efficiency. A sucker behind the rad is better than a blower in front. Any fan with shaped/aerofoil type blades is designed to be efficient one way only. To promote cooling air entering the nosecone should be directed through the rad by cowling it in so it doesn't have an alternative route round the sides, above or below the rad. There must be sufficient holes to let air out of the engine-bay.
