One final comment by me on this thread, as I'm now boring myself on this subject, let alone others. Due to my past babblings on the method of Insurance brokers to arrive at a quote, out of pure curiosity and Utuber's comment (above) I asked Cherished Vehicles for a quote earlier today....(69 year old, RHOC member, Advanced Driver certificate holder,.... 1000 miles, owner only driver, comprehensive value £4000, I can't see there being any loading due to post code (sheep theft only up here, not cars !!!!)..........cost £121, is it my age, or perhaps I smell badly !!!!! :aggressive:

You are right it is weird I am only two years younger with a higher value and more miles,my original renewal quote was for £124 but I rang them and asked them to match a quote from A-plan of £105 which they agreed to do so I think you have to find a price you like then go to the company of choice and ask them to match the quote. As an after thought did you build your vehicle because that might be something they take into account.

As Bob says, some do build up insurance, their reference is the chassis number.

I had build insurance which covered all parts (comprehensive) and transporting by trailer with an agreed value if a total loss.

Was about £80 from Pickles per annum.

Just rang frank pickles for a quote as I want to use my NCB and switch the kit car as my main car to keep my NCB active but they only insure kit cars as a secondary car and don't accept NCD

I've insured my v6 S7 before I joined the club but to be fair Adrian Flux gave me agreed value £5000 fully comprehensive no mileage restrictions insurance for £125. The only caveat is that when I'm at home my car has to be locked in the garage between 10PM and 6AM. I can live with that.

Hello,

Just spotted this thread!
We do build-up insurance which can be transferred to full-road risk after IVA pass.

Also - whether you are contacting us through Cherished Vehicle or A-Plan it's important you come through to Thatcham as we have more schemes available with insurers. Cherished Vehicle Thatcham 03332076597 and A-Plan Thatcham 01635874646

It's the same office we are just dual branded as A-Plan own Cherished Vehicle Insurance Services.

Last year when i insured the hood it was £206, i was 22. This year they say 'new rules regarding kit cars' mean i cant find insurance for less than £500, the companies i rang all say it will come down when i reach 25...

So atm the car is stopping off the road, and im having to consider selling it :( as 500quid is far too much money...

It's more down to experience, most of our insurers require at least 12 months experience for a specialist policy or driving something of a similar power etc. With kit cars many insurers have a minimum age, but with the right experience under 25 year old's can be referred (at worst they'll say no!)

So if we haven't quoted yet you can give us a call on 01635 874646 and speak to our specialist team in Thatcham and we can see if there's anything we can do?

Carlie :)
