Remote Iacv Mount - Is This Location Ok?

Hi,

I purchased a remote IACV mount from Kitspares (https://www.kitspares.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1264) and am working out where to mount it.

GBS say there is no specific place but suggested near the swirl pot/foot well - problem is there isn't enough room. I was thinking about mounting it at the front of the car, in front of the plenum highlighted.

Before I get the drill out....am I going to be fowling anything? I don't think I will be but my build isn't complete yet. What's peoples opinions? I am assuming location doesn't make much difference.

Thanks,

Dan

I would have thought the closer you can mount it to the throttle body the better. The longer the pipe is between the valve and the throttle body , the more lag there will be in it's operation. Might not be actually noticeable but every IACV I've ever seen is on the throttle body.

May I be so bold and ask why you need an Idle Control Valve?

I am running the Sierra injection Throttle body on my own plenum design and only use the Throttle body screw to set up the slow running of the engine.

I may stand to be corrected in this matter by others, but once my engine has warmed up a little it all runs fine.

IACV is an effective idle control but Omex allows use of spark advance/retard for idle. (Emerald probably has this facility.) Works a treat. Either system should allow you to lean into the car, turn the key to start and walk away. The car will look after itself. Simple throttle body screw will not do this.

I am running Emerald K3 ECU so mine is set by the use of the spark advance/ retard for idle control depending on TPS setting.

On the plenum was fords choice for the sierra and mondeo zetec. Mounting it remotely is not a bad idea but will slightly slow the airflow adjustments it makes. Wether this will affect its function I very much doubt.

Where you mount random items like this in your engine bay is in my opinion best left till late in the build. Doing it as you go along leads to a scattering of items which can make the underbonnet area look untidy. It can also lead to access problems when you are up and running. (I can't remove the thermostat housing from my ST170 with the engine in place!) Plan it all early if you wish but I wish I had kept it all fluid till the later stages. Some of the best locost builds IMO have almost nothing sitting on the scuttle or visible round the engine.

An idle control valve gives lots of flexibility in terms of cold idle etc that just isnt possible in the same way without one.

Thanks, from what I read its the conclusion I came to. I'm going to see if I can mount it on the same bracket the coil packs on but I suspect there isn't enough room. Failing that I will see how I get on with it mounted at the front as per the screenshot.

With the control valve mounted remotely via a hose I found that the hose collapsed so needed to insert a steel spiral to prevent the suction flattening the hose. Has this occurred with other remote installations.
