Webber On 1800 Ohc

Hi guy's, been running my series 3 1800 ohc on a pierburg, which came with the engine, horrible restricted thing.

Anyway fitted a webber 32/36 off a 2,0 pinto but it's running rich, least I think it is. Lumpy when hot and smells rich, but could also be lean? No black smoke btw but seems to hesitate as you accelerate and worse when you open the second choke, as though it's trying to clear excess fuel? Lots of crackle on the overrun in the exhaust also.

Question is do I down jet the carb, or does it matter? The engine will only draw to its capacity I'm thinking?

For reference I looked at a 1600 ohc and the jets in that carb, a webber 3d1, are actually bigger than in mine!

Any webber experts out there?, opinions appreciated.

Regards eastyorks.

Yes its new with the pump valve, got a full rebuild set off fr.

Off topic but came up yesterday at mot, I don't have any side lights, just dip and main beam, never had any for 7 previous mots, but now it's an advisory?

Side/outline/running/marker lamps have been obligatory since the start of SVA/IVA. I'm surprised the car passed IVA without and surprised it's only an advisory and not a fail. Put some on. You can get headlamp plugs that have a side light holder built in. Most headlamp reflectors have a hole in the silvering for them to shine through.

Hi, it's on the original headlights supplied by RHE. Should have said It's pre "destroy the kit industry" SVA. It only goes out on sunny daytime runs so effectively there redundant anyway!

Hi, think ive fixed it. went through all the jets again, all clear. Noticed

It was ticking over without touching idle speed screw.

Starting investigating the second choke, there is a small stop screw that holds the throttle spindle which was holding the butterfly slightly open.

Enough to create a weak mixture, hence the hesitation.

(It goes very well indeed now!)

Tail lights come one along with dash back light. I'm thinking of fitting some torpedo lamps to tops of wings.

Thanks for all the pointers guys.

Regards.
