Seat Runners

Hello Everyone,

So I have jumped in with both feet and purchased a Robinhood 2b, its ok but needs a bit of love.

One of the items is the drivers seat. Under heavy acceleration it shoots back which I found out pretty quickly once I had bought it.

My question is the runners that the seat goes on to, is it a custom item? Looking at the one I have it seems to have been hacked/welded to make it and then bolted with 4 bolts to the floor pan.

I have got some other bits to do to it but hopefully I can turn this into the car I have wanted for 20 years.

All the best

Congratulations on the purchase and welcome to the forum! :D

Most people either bolt the seats to the floor in one fixed position or buy a simple set of runners (like these: https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/black-seat-runners-pair-one-seat-single-lock-left-hand) - I've never seen anyone make their own runners when you can buy them pretty cheaply.

If you've got runners, not sure why they're not locking. I'm afraid you'd need to take the seats out to look. Once off, you can decide if you need to buy new ones and hopefully, they'll just fit into the existing holes.

Also, post a pic or 2 of the new car - you may find the original builder is on this forum... ^_^

Hi Gavlar,

The runners mentioned in the post above are better then the runners with the adjusting that links both sides because these are often too wide for our cars and will require cutting and welding.

Welcome to the club.

Thanks for the tips.

The seat is out, one side is smooth running just needs greasing but the other is juddery as hell. Seems like a bearing in the runner is either bone dry or failed.

The locking mechanism works ok when out but I noticed that the frame was slightly bent so that got hit with a hammer.

I'll pop it back in and see how it works out.

Also I will get some pictures up and running so you can see what I have.

Regards

Gavin

So sorry for the long time in responding. Don't ask...... car is in bits at present.

So the solution was found in that there were no washers in between the seat and the seat rails. I've popped some in and the seat now moves as it should, one thing off the tick box.

Well done, how many more jobs on the list? You have just missed a great club weekend at Santa Pod. Let us know, we are really good at helping newbies and supporting your build.

When I was new and my gearbox failed the week before Stoneleigh the UK largest kit car show two strangers and club members (Gaz and Richy) sourced a gearbox and came around and fitted a new gearbox. Well worth the membership.
