You need a high ratio...probably a 1600 would be best. However, if you have a 2L speedo drive/gearbox etc.....then you will have problems with speedo accuracy.

But it will over read so it should still pass sva.

Hi Kevin,

the diff you need for accelaration is the 3.92.

For some odd reason t was fitted to some 2.0 injection models.

BUT if you plan on long distance motorway trips it gets pretty wearing.

at 70 MPH with a 5 speed box its doing abut 3200 revs.

The 3.62 at 70 is doing aout 2700.

Check the VIN plate or the tag on one of the diff bolts to confirm the ratio.

Theres a series of codes which was on one of the sites (cant remember where)

Most other models of 1,8 & 2 litre had the 3.62 diff.

I dont know about the 1.6.

HTH Bob.

the 4.11:1 diff was fitted to approx 1/3 of pre 1985 sierra estates...if thats any help

most of them have been gobbled up by the stock car fraternity as its preatty indestructable( and gets you away from the line like a rocket!!!)

3.9:1 Diff was fitted to all 2.0 injection and early 1.6 estate cars. Best diff is a 3.9:1 limited slip diff which was only fitted to the 2.0L DOHC XR4x4. I have one and not only do they give good accelleration but traction out of corners is fantastic.

The other problem with the low ratio diffs i.e. the 4.11 is that with the std. gearbox you are only doing about 22mph at 5000 rpm in first, I find that with a 3.77 ratio 1st gear is a bit too low and quite often just use 2nd to start off with a bit of clutch slipping.

I've spotted an XR4x4i on the bottom of a pile at my local scrappy.

How can I identify if it is LSD and which ratio.

ps are you guys suffering with building in this heat - cant wait to blast but most likely summer 2004.

The 4.11 diff will give best acceleration but, reduce your top speed capcity.

the 4.11 : 1 diff was fitted to the P100 pick-up Sierra, it used a solid axel and leaf springs,

So you would have to tack the diff apart to get the Crown Wheel and Pinion gear., these should just fit straight onto the normal sierra's differential ( the bit inside )

hope you get it sorted..

My diff ID tag appears to read

3 39T

FOG 6B 24G

The letter on the VIN plate is "V". Sierra 1986 2.0GL

Is there such a thing as a 3.39:1....The "9" is very clear.

Any help on identifying would be appreciated
