Performance Slipping?

Hi all.

I took the car out for a proper spin, but found it to have not much grunt below 3.5-4.0k..but the handling is spot on now :)

I'm wondering if my 36-1 wheel had slipped slightly (not sure how, its rock solid as is the sensor) also the ign map seems to have large adv figures -more than I would have thought would run well -hence why its possible the wheel has slipped a tad.

or maybe the cam has gone 'off timing' as it was zeroed in without the woodruff key with a dial gauge and crank timing wheel to get it spot on, and when it as first setup it flew, really good fun..now it seems to be lacking a tad and nothing happens until 4k rpm.. is it more likely I've got used to how the car performs?

Anyone else had a drop in performance that was due to something like this?

hmm

Tak

Usually happens to me the second time I take it out after an upgrade

More chance of the cam moving if you haven't got a key in it! If you havent got a vernier pulley you can just file off one face of the key to allow it rotate a bit then pack out the backside to stop it 'shunting'. Used to be bits about this on Dave Andrews site, Including stuff like when you skim the head the cam timing goes out as you reduce the centres between the cam and crank.

i think il double check the cam timing, but id think it would keep slipping more and more until the valves smash..rather than slip a tiny bit then stop..

worth a double check sometime me thinks.. before my turbo conversion..lol

On a serious note I agree with Peter, if the cam sprocket has slipped a bit then the cam will be retarded which will have moved the power band further up, hence the poor performance below 3.5K
