Exhaust Pipe Expander

Recommended Posts

I bought one recently as I needed to very slightly increase a flare on a new silence in my Zero for it to fit. In simple terms, I got nowhere with it! You need to be able to hold the pipes very firmly and need muscles the size of Popeye for it to work. I was unable to do either :) Perhaps I am just a wimp!!

I didn't realise there was a tool you can buy to do that

I used the 42mm socket I bought for the wheel hub nuts (which was about the same diameter as my exhaust), 2 slots cut in the exhaust and a hammer

A piece of solid bar the O.D of which is the internal diameter you wish to achieve ( on the pipe ) & turned down to fit the existing pipe bore will do the job. Hold pipe in one hand & hit turned bar repeatedly with a medium hammer until driven in required flared distance.

Dont buy a cheap one that looks like metal slots with black rubber bands around it buy a proper one like the Lisle 34400 Exhaust Tail Pipe Expander

Been using mine for years no problems but it's designed to be used with an air gun but spanners can be used
