My Arrival In Rh Ownership

Hi all,

After deciding to get into RH ownership early last week and attending last Wednesdays meeting outside of Coventry I checked out a car on the Thursday which is the car in the link below.

This other link below shows more pictures including the engine bay and under the rear end

Now I was told to check the V5 over to ensure it was legit and registered as an RH and not a ford sierra or a dutton, which I did and it passed that test. Overall it looks in lovely condition and has the paperwork from the carb work by Carb Care. Took me out for a drive in it and I confirm it shifts. So after the drive I commenced haggling. You can see on the ad he wanted £4700 for it and I intented to proper "Mike Brewer" him up. However my initial offer of 4k was shot down and after back and forth we settled on £4450 and I left a deposit whilst awaiting the finances to complete the purchase.

A loan agreement has been signed and the money will be in my bank in the next 2-3 days now so I rang him today to get some information on the car for the insurance (which is now set up through A plan) however when I asked him (as A plan asked me) "what is the year of manufacture" he said that the V5 states 1998. Which struck me as off because from the small amount of research ive done into RHs I thought the 2B didnt go into production until later than then

The new style chassis was affectionately called the 'tubey' by staff and the 'Project 2B' (a reference to the affectionate nickname) was adopted as the kit name. Between the bulk collection dates of 21 August and 11 December 1999, exactly 205 kits were collected. Bulk collections have always been successful at Robin Hood Engineering, the record being one collection day in 1997 totalling 125 comprehensive kits.

Can anyone help put my mind at ease and confirm I have [or will have by Friday] a 2B, and that the V5 belongs with that car and it's not a V5 from a pre 2B RH. Maybe the seller has the 1998 date on the V5 confused with something. I'm a buit worried here.

The v5 will probably have 2 dates. Mine has 1990 as that was the age of the sierra but has the 2007 date also when it was registered. Just have a good look at the v5 and it will prob be ok.

just checked my v5 and on the blue bit on the second page it says

Date of first registration - 1990

and then below

Date of first registration in the uk - 2007

also on the front under special notes it days 'kit built/converted - assembled from parts all of which may not be new'

sure he didn't say 1988? ie when the donor was made? if so that would tie in.

If the big points are covered, ie the v5 says it's a robin hood, then i wouldn't worry overly, it's probably a dvla typo.

Reg starts with A so the Sierra donor was an 83? I'll find out for sure on Friday when I go to get the car as I'll check the V5 thoroughly for that date and check the ID plate on the car for any numbers that may match on the V5 (do 2Bs have any information on the ID plate that correspond to the V5?)
