Jumpy Speedo

Dean: Not electric, I think Steve is taking about the 90 degs adaptor for the cable. Unfortunately we have 2 separate threads running here after the 'hijack'.

It will definitely be the cable. If you haven't got one make sure you get a 90degree right angle adapter as the space between tunnel and gearbox will be too tight and will have pinched and bent the cable.]
In this case eBay will be your friend or a good motorfactors will be able to source a cable for you

That depends on the build of the car. On mine I can actually get the cable in without any adapter. We are talking millimeters of difference in the placement of the gearbox mounting.

But a word of warning, don't take it out unless you have to. If you do a Forum Search on 'Superspec Speedo Cable' you will see that some users have spent hours trying to get them back in, Personally I gave up trying when my cable broke and I gave the car to a local mechanic who has a car lift.. Even then he found it very difficult,

As for the cable, that is one of the few things on the Superspec that we been unable to track down. In theory it should be simple, MT75 at one end and Escort at the other and about 10ft long. But we have been unable to find one anywhere. I was lucky, I got one from 'jmspec' that he wasn't using (Thanks Jeremy). So you may have to get a bespoke one built or try and adapt the instrument end of a Transit one.

Personally I decided to skip the normal upgrade to an electronic one and I now use a GPS-based speedo that sits on the scuttle and provides a Head-Up-Display,. Absolutely great, although I will admit it doesn't include an odometer.

Deano, have you tried re-calibrating your ETB speedo after the re-wire?

There are a few methods, but the one I used was to drive for 1 mile at a constant speed.

There are instructions on the ETB website if you have lost the instructions

Further to Als comments about the Superspec speedo cable, there are some early posts indicating its from a Cortina or Sierra, about 7.5 feet long and with a Quinton Hazel number of QSC3042.

Well I think the cause of the jumpy speedo may actually have been the fact that somewhere along the time we have had it the end of it had been smashed off.

I'm actually a little surprised it was reading anything to be frank.

However, a new one has been ordered and an update will be posted once it has been fitted
