MX5 Gearbox To Zetec ?

I take it that's the 6 speed Getrag box and you're sick of weedy type 9's?

It looks like some of them have an integral bellhousing (6 cylinder cars) but that said, this bloke has fitted one to a cossy YB block by welding on the front end of (presumably ) a T5 bellhousing. Maybe you could do the same thing with the front of an MT75 which would be a cheaper option.

Post 15 near the very bottom is the relevant bit - the rest of the thread is just interesting reading.

Dan

Is it quiet in 4th gear and does is rumble, grumble at tick over in neutral with the clutch engaged?.

If so I would imagine the 1st motion shaft bearing, some call it the input shaft bearing, is goosed and a £15.00 job to replace.

My money, for what its worth, is still the 1st motion shaft bearing, when in 4th ALL the power goes in a straight line down the input shaft and straight out of the main shaft to the prop and on to the diff, granny sucking eggs here so sorry.

In 1st , 3rd the power turns through 90 degrees down to the lay shaft and back up to the main shaft, hence silent in 4th and noisy in 1st and 3rd and 5th obviously.

With your skills and knowledge, a sierra manual, a set of bearings, seals and gaskets, job done for around 50-60 squid.
