Can anyone suggest good mechanical books for the novice please, I plan to buy an old pinto engine and strip and rebuild rather than mess with mine

You can't beat the Haynes manuals for whatever car the engine came from. I have 3 covering all aspects of the car

As ever 1st is Haynes Sierra manual gives you a reasonable base , how to's ,torque figs etc . Numerous others from basics to advanced , as above if its been done its on here some where or an old fogie will jump in mick
