Hi just fitting new electric cooling fan to rad, what is the best way to switch the fan? Any ideas, sketches or info welcome. Not sure if to have a manual switch on dash or thermostatic inline?

Cheers PJ

I do both on my kit cars, here is an article on how...

hope it helps......

note the diagram is a schematic one......in practice you will connect the switch on the dash to the warning light and the ignition switch live.....only a thin wire from the switch to the engine/radiator sensor......the relay and its associated wiring for the fan are all under the bonnet.

IMO 'tis a good idea to take the earth connection for the fan/relay wiring from the starter motor side of the starter solenoid --- the fan will be un-able to run when the engine is being cranked ( 12volts either side of fan ) & will work fine other-wise as the starter motor has a very low resistance. Always useful to have max current available for starting a hot engine ;which wont be helped if rad fan is running as well.

Idea was suggested & applied to Florins wiring during build -- Think it came from N/E area ??
