Sign Out Not Working?

I have just tried clearing the "cookies" history only in chrome and I restarted the computer and chrome after a longer period and this time I was not automatically logged in, which is good.

The other machine running firefox was logged in, then out and hibernated (first one that the problem occurs on is a cold restart - I would have thought the problem would occur the other way around - oh well)

The second one did not automatically login in again, but I have only tried that for one day so far.

I will logout again from this machine and see if the problem reoccurs later.

Well my problem of not displaying new content is resolved...... Nothing was broken. I have used these boards for years and never noticed something. When you click on New Content there is a panel on the left that allows to follow content you have not read or just content that you follow or other such settings. I have never changed it for years but somehow in a particularly enthusiastic clicking spree the option for content that I follow had been clicked. So I was getting no new content.... Just a tip in case anyone else has the same issue or wants to explore the new content options.

Cheers to Rob for investigating. Top bloke.

Just wondering, is there a good reason for logging off the site?

I never do (I'm lazy that way) and it means I don't have to log back on when I need a quick fix...............

It's a good habit to get into for security reasons, especially banking online for instance.

I have since noticed that clearing the cookie history from Chrome has seemed to fix this problem as it has not happened again after doing that.

Signed out last night and switched off the computer. This morning I was still signed out. That's the first time in a few days. Clicked to sign in and it did it instantly. Normally it takes me to the sign in page, auto enters user name and password and then I click 'sign in'. So it's different again. Still using firefox. Something has changed.

I was going to ask where I find cookies to delete them but maybe I don't need to?

So I signed out, went to another site and returned to rhocar. Still signed out. Closed firefox, opened firefox, went to rhocar and I am shown as signed in again without doing anything. (Rhocar is my homepage)

Problem seems to have returned again with Chrome not signing out correctly again.

I will try and clear the cookies again, but cannot understand why this has reoccurred ?

I know I signed out, yet after about an hour or so, just refreshing the page in Chrome shows me logged in again. It shows me as signed out if I immediately refresh the page after first signing out and for a few minutes afterwards.

It only occurs after some long undetermined time period.

I have found that it still happens too.

I signed out, cleared the cookie cache and it was ok for a while. I then signed in and out again without closing chrome and find that I was logged in again later on.

This is an annoying security loophole and really needs fixing. Hope that someone will be able to fix this?

This has happened again this morning straight after startup. I checked which cookies are being kept and one seems to be the pass_hash which expires in one month. Could that be the problem?

I will remove that part and check later.

I found that by removing the pass_hash cookie which has an expiry of just under one month, the sign in problem did not occur again.

I have no idea why the password hash is kept as a cookie as I think it should not be doing that. My passwords are kept separate from the cookie store so the password being stored in a cookie is just wrong.

I will clear that cookie after I sign out again and see if that fixes the issue.

This is the only forum message board I use so I cannot tell if this is the case.

I agree with you about password hashing. You cannot decrypt this to get back your original password (in sensible time that is) as your password is encrypted first and only this encrypted part is compared with the stored password hash.

I did not check to see if "remember me" was ticked of not. I'll check next time I login.

I did not mean to start a scaremongering issue as I know passwords are NEVER stored in plain text on machines :)

There seems to be another issue with this problem that may be related.

I have just signed in again after at least a day away and find there is "no new content since my last sign in" - I can't beleive that to be true.

I will try and remove the cookies after signing out again later and see if that cures the problem.

This never used to be an issue until fairly recently.

Thanks,

Simon.
